Howarth Beginner Oboe

 The
Howarth S10 (previously known as the S10B), a long-established
student model oboe, is recommended by leading teachers and chosen
by Education Authorities and Music Services throughout the U.K.
It is recognised as the best student English system oboe available
and indeed many of today's professional players began lessons on
a Howarth B Model oboe.
The instrument is particularly suitable for students because the
design specification includes close finger spacing for the smaller
hand and the instrument is light in weight for ease of handling.
A professional model oboe can weigh up to 0.72 kg, the Howarth S10
weighs only 0.54 kg. The popularity of the oboe has increased dramatically
in recent years and we have found that students are starting at
younger ages than ever before. In order to help younger players,
the S10 is an all covered hole model. |

This instrument easily meets the needs of playing up to Grade
8 and beyond. The S20 is light in weight and thus suitable for
accomplished young players. It includes certain key features,

at an advanced level.

S40C Dual System Oboe (Conservatoire with Thumbplate)
Graduate model, designed for the diploma level player.
It has a conservatoire keywork system with an added thumbplate,
making it a dual system instrument. This oboe includes many essential
features found on a professional oboe, with mechanisms for almost
every trill.
The S40 produces a characteristically warm and mellow tone. At
this advanced level, some players may prefer the S45, a thicker
walled instrument, which adds extra richness and warmth to the
sound with the same keywork specifications.

Howarth S5 Thumbplate (English) Model Oboe
First built in 1950, the S5 Oboe was our original professional
model. It has proved an ever-popular choice for the advanced musician,
and has developed over the years to reflect changing tonal styles
and requirements. The current S5 is a thick-walled oboe offering
you fine tuning and a large, powerful sound.
The S5 models remain the benchmark upon which the Howarth reputation
for quality has been built. Many of the greatest recordings have
been and still are made using instruments from the S5 range. This
time-proven range of instruments are admired in oboe sections
the world over.
Available finished in Gold plate, to special order. This option
adds 10% to the cost. |

XL Thumbplate (English) Model Oboe (body in Cocobolo)
In
1995 Howarth began to develop a prestige model oboe with a completely
new bore and tone hole structure. Working in collaboration with

The XL found immediate success in the greatest orchestras, and
in the hands of the world’s finest soloists, and it remains first
choice for discerning oboists across the globe. The flexibility
of the XL appeals to both the professional and the accomplished
amateur, and is prominent in many leading youth orchestras.
Designed for the professional player, made from Cocobolo wood.
The lower density Cocobolo gives a warm, rich palette of sound,
while the lighter colour of the wood displays the beautiful patterns
in the grain particularly well.
For additional comfort, Cocobolo-bodied instruments save 10%
in weight over the equivalent instrument with an African Blackwood
body.
This prestige oboe is hand-made by our most experienced craftsmen
with at least 15 years of experience.
