Selmer MkVII Saxophone

"FOR YEARS , MANY OF THE WORLDS TOP SAXOPHONE PLAYERS HAVE REGARDED THE SELMER PARIS MARK VI AS THE ULTIMATE. AND THEY WERE RIGHT .UNTILL NOW. BECAUSE NOW,THERE'S SOMETHING BETTER. INTRODUCING THE SELMER PARIS MARK VII"

This was how Selmer USA introduced the Mk VII to the US in 1974 in the Downbeat magazine.

Produced from 1974 to 1980 . With this model Selmer had a hard act to following coming after the Mark VI.. While the sax itself was a great sounding horn on both Alto and Tenor, The fingering had much to be desired. The players being spoilt by the comfort of its predecessor found it cumbersome."It must have been designed for a Gorilla" was one remark .

However, do not under estimate this model there are many fine players out there using Mark VII saxophones and wouldn't part with them, in future years they will no doubt be on the collectors list. They were made from 1974 to 1980.

I understand Johnny Griffith's had a major hand in advising on this model.

Showing the right hand fingering on the Selmer Mark 7 Saxophone

First introduced in 1974 following the very sucessful Mark 6:

This was to become immediatey apparent that these horns were a dissapointment. The sound and quality were fine but the fingering left much to be desired.

This was the culprit that put many players off the Selmer Mk7 Saxophones. This left hand little finger cluster, unlike the Mk6 it was long and cumbersum, a bit like the long Bb on the early USA made instruments ,which worked well because the bell keys were on the othe side
It was the fingering that put many people off from the beginning, very cumbersum , the saying around at the time was that it had been" built for a Gorrila".

This was another put off with the Selmer Mk 7, unlike the small , comfortable Mk6 C & Eb there was a big stretch for the little finger.

Right hand Eb to C was very awkward to finger and there was also a wide stretch from the D
